As your City Councilor, I will push for:
- Affordability – The primary challenges to affordability are the high cost of housing and property taxes. I look forward to advocating for a mix of housing that is affordable to Section 8 voucher holders, working class neighbors, and professionals that can afford the market rate. I look forward to working with other elected officials to examine the taxes that are making it difficult to live here, while keeping our schools strong.
- Safe, Strong Neighborhoods – We hear that when neighbors know each other, they look out for each other and create a stronger neighborhood. There has been a great deal of work done to build our community and neighborhood relationships, yet this is a never-ending process. I would like to work with neighbors, the council, and city government to continue finding creative ways to get to know each other.
- Better Communication with City Government – In the 10 years that I have been involved with the Burlington community, I have seen a number of public engagement efforts and heard from many residents that they still did not trust the city. While on the council I would like to understand why this gulf exists and will seek to narrow it. From large-scale development projects to the localized issues of our streets and neighborhoods, I’ll work to make sure all voices are represented.
